Tears Can Refresh Our Souls
They that sow in tears shall reap in joy. Psalms 126:5 (ASV)
Do you ever find yourself moved to tears?
Without fail, at least once a month or more in church I find myself in tears. Not because I’m sad, but because I’ve been touched. I’ve been touched by the music, or God has spoken to me through the sermon, or a part of my heart has found healing and I’m even moved to tears when a new Christian walks forward to accept Christ.
These tears aren’t bad or even sad, but refreshing and rejuvenating.
I often express my feelings in tears. When my heart is touched, I cry.
I have a very tender heart. When something touches me, tears are quick to come. Just watching a child move forward and accept Christ can bring tears to my eyes. So can a happy occasion like a wedding or a sad occasion like a funeral. I know a book is really good when it makes me cry. Even though I’m an adult, I still cry every time Frosty the Snowman melts.
What I have discovered is that tears are good for us. They refresh the soul and bring a cleansing. When Lazarus died, we are told that Jesus was greatly troubled. John 11:35 says “Jesus wept.” (ASV)}. I figure if the Savior of mankind could cry in his sorrow, then it’s good enough for me.
What moves you to tears? Do you feel cleansed after a good cry?
