Power of Forgiveness: Learning to Forgive

As we enter a new year, we will begin a new study.  For the next two months, we will talk about forgiveness.

Forgiveness is defined as the act or process of forgiving or being forgiven.  Forgive means to stop feeling angry or resentful for an offense, flaw, or mistake.  To cancel a debt or to forgive someone for an offense.

Forgiveness is not easy, but when we forgive, we have to forgive for our selves.  When we learn how to forgive, we learn how to let go of the past and move forward.

After leaving an abusive relationship, the biggest thing I had to learn was to stop being a victim and to start looking at myself as a survivor.   A large part of that process was forgiving my abuser, as well as forgiving myself.

Jesus said that when we forgive others we will be forgiven.  Forgiveness is a process that has to be worked through.

Jesus said in Matthew 6:14-15, “For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.”

Do you struggle with forgiveness?
