Hymn Story: We’ve A Story to Tell to the Nations
“We’ve a Story to Tell to the Nations” was written by Henry Ernest Nichol, a British civil engineering student and musician. He was born on December 10, 1862 in Hull, Yorkshire, England. He wrote around 130 hymns, primarily for children.
“We’ve a Story to Tell to the Nations” was first published in a London hymnal in 1896. The first printing in the United States seems to be in the songbook Hymns and Tunes for Schools in 1908.
Nichol often wrote under a pseudonym, Colin Sterne being his most frequently used. He wrote around 130 hymns, primarily for children.
Ernest Nichol died in Skirlaugh, Yorkshire, England in 1926.
I’m very grateful for the back-story of these hymns written in earlier Christian times! Many of them are familiar to me, but I doubt they’ve been heard or sung by young Christians! Their messages can open minds and hearts to the universal call of the Gospel throughout history…Thanks for keeping them alive and able to be discovered by today’s curious seeker…🤗❣️
