Song Story: He is Lord
This is a tune I’ve sung for as long as I can remember. However, there is so much meaning about our faith packed into this short tune.
The song was written by Rev. Marvin V. Frey. Rev. Frey was born in Sherwood, Oregon.
In addition to He is Lord, Rev. Frey also wrote other well-known choruses such as I Have Peace Like a River, Do Lord and Kum Ba Yah. He is credited with penning more than 2,000 songs.
The first verse stating “He is Lord” is the only verse I’ve ever heard in church or seen printed in my vast music collection. So, I was pleasantly surprised to discover Hymnary.org had three additional verses states. These verses each start with “He is King,” “He is Love,” and “He is Life.” Each of these phrases draws on the words of John.
He died on November 28, 1992 in the state of New York.
Great chorus, well sung and well presented
