Guest Post: The Scent of Christmas by Lynn Watson

Today, it’s my pleasure to welcome Lynn Watson. I love her perspective on celebrating the holidays. She’s also hosting the day over on my Facebook page: Leagh’s Little Bit of Christmas. We’d love to have you join us.

The Scent of Christmas

When I discovered essential oils twenty years ago it changed the way I read many passages in the Bible. As I learned the characteristics of each essence, fresh perspectives jumped off the pages of Scripture. Sharing that passion proved difficult since “essential oils” had not yet become a household term. For several years I pondered how to present them in a book that would entice others to be inspired, too. Maybe a devotional would work, but I had no idea how to proceed.

By the encouragement of an author friend, I wrote (reluctantly) one devotion and took it to a writers’ conference with few expectations. In a one-on-one session it was suggested this was timely, a fresh perspective, and good. You should write this book. Cinnamah-Brosia’s Inspirational Collection for Women was born.

I created the fictional character, Cinnamah-Brosia, and a host of friends—ones just like you and me—who come together often at Miss Dot’s Coffee Cottage (also fictional). The cottage became “C-B’s” when her grandmother went to be with Jesus.

Their treasured times together, the trials and joys the friends share, and Scriptures that encourage them are bound together as a devotional collection. It’s complete with scents, recipes for the cottage’s baked goods, musical suggestions, fun facts about the essences, and hands-on activities to make the scents a part of your life. There’s much to ponder about women of the Bible, Bible stories, and how they connect the botanicals to our lives and living them more fully for Jesus.

The first book, The Essence of Courage: Cultivating the Fruit of the Spirit in Solomon’s Locked Garden and in Your Heart connected the two lists in special ways. That was just the beginning of the spices, and scents I found wafting through the pages of Scripture.

Because of my love of Christmas aromas, the second volume in the Cinnamah-Brosia Collection is a Christmas one—The Essence of Joy: Filling Your Heart with the Aromas of Jesus’ Nativity. With the unique arrangement of these devotions, this is perfect for the Advent season. (December 3-24 in 2023). Use it to immerse yourself, your family, or you and your small group in the JOY of the season.
