A Heart of Gratitude: Gratitude in those Difficult Moments
David had a choice, he could allow Goliath to defeat him or he could stand up to Goliath and prove just how strong he was. David chose to stand up to Goliath and prove his
strength. But, the one thing he did before swung that rock was to pray and ask God’s help.
There are times when we have our own giants or difficult situations to face.
For instance, I had an elderly friend who took her anger and frustrations at her current situation out on me. There were times when I remembered that she was hurting, but there were other times when she turned the heat on and made life very difficult. Sadly, this was someone that I could not get away from and had to encounter on a daily basis.
There are circumstances or people in our life that often provide some very difficult and trying moments. We can allow ourselves to grow from these trials or wither from them.
I had a co-worker, who was going through the situation with me, that reminded me that God was only using this situation to strengthen us. I knew she was right, but that didn’t mean it was any easier as we walked through the fire.
Finding the good in those difficult moments isn’t always easy, but it is the best way to deal with the stress of the situation.
When those moments in life grow difficult, we have an option. We can either cry and sulk or we can give praise to the Lord and allow the situation to strengthen us.
David tells us in Psalm 106:1 to “Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! His faithful love
endures forever.”
David gave thanks to the Lord and declared that the Lord would deliver Goliath into his hands.
As a quote I recently read says, “Sometimes God will put a Goliath in your life, for you to find the David within you.” {Unknown Author}
So, when life grows difficult give thanks to the Lord, find one good things about the situation {no matter how small} and ask God to help you find the David within you.
How has God used trials to strengthen you?
