The Three Gifts of Christmas: Gifts Christ Gives

Last week, we discussed the gifts the Wise Men brought to the Christ Child and the meaning behind these gifts. However, these are not the only gifts of Christmas. There is a much greater gift. The gift Christ gives to each of us.

Christmas has a greater and deeper meaning.  It is about the gift Jesus gave to us, when he came as an infant. He lived on earth and experienced all the temptations and emotions we face, however he was without sin. {Hebrews 4: 2 Corinthians 5:21}

By living a life without sin, he went to the cross an unblemished and pure lamb, where he was sacrificed for our sins. Through this unselfish act of love, he offers us three gifts. Which are:

  1. Salvation—Jesus died on the cross for our sins. His gift to us is salvation and hope through him if we call on his name and accept him as our Lord and Savior.  {Isaiah 1:18; John 3:16-18; Romans 3:23; Ephesians 2:8-9; Acts 4:12; John 5:24; and Romans 10:9-10}
  2. Unconditional Love—Jesus offers us unconditional love.  He does not condone or condemn us, but loves us unconditionally and without blemish. His love is agape or wide open and the highest kind of love.  This doesn’t mean we can’t displease him or that he will leave us where we are, but he will gently guide and prod us towards where he would have us and the path set out for us. {1 John 1; 1 John 4:7-11; Romans 8:37-39; 1 John 4:19; 1 Corinthians 13:4-13; 1 Timothy 1:5; Psalm 36:5-7; Jeremiah 31:3;  Psalm 118:4; Romans 8:35 and Psalm 136:2}
  3. Eternal Life—Jesus provides us with the promise that when we confess our sins and accept him into our hearts and lives, we are guaranteed eternal life.  Eternal life worshiping him in heaven is much more desirable than being cast into eternal damnation. {Psalm 39; Proverbs 11:30-34; Deuteronomy 9:5-7 ; Job 14:14-16; Matthew 7:13-14; John 3:16-18; Ephesians 2:8-10; 1 John 5:13-14; and Revelation 3:5-9.}

Only Christ can offer us the gift of salvation, unconditional love and eternal life.

Next week we will discuss the three gifts we can give to Christ.
