Names of God: Yahweh-Tsabbaoth

Yahweh-Tsabbaoth means the Lord of hosts.

The second stanza from Martin Luther’s hymn “A Mighty Fortress Is Our God” says, “Did we in our own strength confide, Our striving would be losing, Were not the right man on our side, The man of God’s own choosing. Dost ask who that may be? Christ Jesus, it is He, Lord Sabbaoth His name, From age to age the same, And He must win the battle.”

David told Goliath before defeating him, “Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied.”   {1 Samuel 17:45}

And they were calling to one another: “Holy, holy, holy is the LORD Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory.”  {Isaiah 6:3}

“And David became more and more powerful, because the LORD Almighty was with him.”  {1 Chronicles 11:9}

“And, “I will be a Father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.”  {2 Corinthians 6:18}

““I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.”   {Revelation 1:8}
