The Foolish Ruler
Recently in Bible Study, we were discussing the foolish ruler. He told Jesus he followed the ten commandments, but asked what he was lacking.
“Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” {Matthew 19:21}
So how did the man react?
“When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth.” {Matthew 19:22}
We wondered how many of us would be like this foolish ruler. We realized that it would be difficult to sell everything if we had to. We discussed what an inner struggle it would be to be obedient and obey the Lord. However, scripture tells us there would be an even greater reward waiting for us for our faithfulness.
How many times do we act like the young man, turning our backs on the Lord instead of following his command and embracing the better choice he has for us?
