Serving Others

When we are hurting, it is so easy to get caught up in our own web of pity, despair, selfishness and one track thinking.

Jesus served others…he washed the disciples feet

However, one of the best ways to get out of our own funk, is to reach out and help others.  When we help others, we end up feeling better about ourselves and even at times seeing a situation differently.

There are many organizations seeking volunteers.  Often it is discovering the one that is right for us.

When we take our minds off of us and place them on someone else, we can find another solution to our own problems.

There are many benefits to volunteering, such as:

  • Helping others in need
  • Learn new skills
  • Be part of a community
  • Make a difference
  • Feel part of a community
  • Make connections
  • Releases stress
  • Lowers blood pressure
  • Makes you feel good
  • Use our talents
  • Take on a challenge

Volunteering can help us in a variety of ways, while we are helping others.

We are told to care for the orphans and fatherless

After all, Jesus said to help the orphans and widows.  {James 1:27}

Paul went even further when he said in Hebrews 13:16 “And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.”

How has volunteering changed your life?

If you’re looking for places to volunteer try a local nursing home, church, homeless shelter, children’s home, hospitals, Red Cross {and other similar organizations}.
