Laughter is Good for the Soul
The other day I asked my grandmother how she slept. “On the bed,” she answered. I couldn’t help but laugh. That was not the answer I expected. She has a way of coming up with answers I would never anticipate, and it makes me laugh.
It’s a reminder that laughter is good for our overall well being. I was amazed at all of the benefits it does provide.
It is good for our bodies—it helps the oxygen in our bodies. Doctors even encourage their patients to laugh. Other benefits are: it strengthens the immune system, boost your energy, improves blood flow and breathing, and lowers your blood pressure.
It can even help your social life and aide in the bonding of a friendship. Some other ways it helps: laughter is contagious and often spreads, laughter increases happiness to enjoy one another’s company more, it defuses conflicts and it enhances teamwork.
It’s good for our spirit—it can improve a bad mood, it can help you change the way you think about a subject, it relaxes the entire body, relieves stress and tension and speeds up metabolism {which helps with weight loss}.
I have a very dry sense of humor and don’t always laugh the way I should. Still it’s a great reminder that I need to do just that.
Some ways in which to find an outlet to laugh:
Watch a comedy
Hang out with a funny friend
Read a funny story or the funny pages
Share a good joke or funny story with another
Check out humor section in a bookstore or magazine
Play with a child or pet
Spend time with a funny friend
Do something silly
In the book of Job we are told “Till he fill thy mouth with laughing, and thy lips with rejoicing.” Job 8:21 (KJV)
As the old saying goes “Laugh and the world laughs with you, cry and you cry alone.”
Have you laughed lately? How can you laugh today?
I love your post about laughing…truly the Joy of the Lord is so healing.
Love you,
Glenda

Through laughter, a lot of the time you can defuse the tension that would usually be there.~Michael Hunter obtained from Tension Quotes
