Hymn Story: At the Name of Jesus

At the Name of Jesus reminds us that one day every knee will bow and tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.

The song was written by Caroline Marie Noel. She was born in Kent, England in 1817 to an Anglican clergyman and hymn writer. By her late teens she wrote poetry but then abandoned it for the next two decades. She suffered from considerable illness and eventually became an invalid.

While an invalid, she began to write devotional verses again. Her poems were collected in the 1861 The Name of Jesus and Other Verses for the Sick and Lonely.

She died in 1877.
