How Beautiful Heaven Will Be
I had the joy of listening to Rev. Don Piper speak on Sunday evening. He is the author of 90 Minutes in Heaven, where he shares his story of being hit by a semi-truck, died and went to heaven for 90 minutes, as a minister friend prayed over him, before being sent back to earth.
His story was a reminder of how fragile life is. We never know when our mortal life can be instantly changed or lost. Listening to him describe the things he saw while in heaven, I realized my imagination cannot even envision all of the glories of heaven.
Jesus says in John 14:2-4 “In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.”
I wondered what the Bible said about heaven. There are many stories of near death experiences, but surprisingly the Bible reveals very little about the afterlife. Most likely we could never comprehend all God has in store for us. God must have a reason for not telling us more, but once we get there we won’t want to leave. Heaven will be unlike anything we’ve ever experienced in this lifetime.
Let’s take a look at John’s description of the “New Jerusalem”. Revelations 21-22 tells us it will have:
1. No more sea
2. No tears, pain, sin, death or sorrow
3. The fountain of the water of life flowing freely, the river of life and the tree of life
4. Twelve gates with angels {3 to the east, 3 to the west, 3 to the south and 3 to the north}
5. The tribes of Israel written on the 12 gates
6. Twelve foundations with the twelve apostles in the wall of the city, the new city is a perfect cube
7. City of and Streets of pure gold, as transparent as glass
8. Building of the walls made of jasper
9. Foundations of the walls of the city garnered with precious stones
10. No temple, the Lord God and the Lamb {Jesus} are the temple
11. Twelve gates made of pearl
12. No sun, moon or night, because God will be the light
Can you imagine how grand it will be?
John 14:6 “Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” To get to Heaven, Jesus is the only way. If you don’t know Him, I encourage you to find a Bible believing Pastor to speak with.
What are you looking forward to when you get to Heaven?
Note: The Movie 90 Minutes in Heaven was made based on Dr. Piper’s memories and book
Diana, there are many days that I longggg for heaven. Not that I’m ever suicidal or anything. But on those days when it seems nothing goes right or something doesn’t happen as I want or people let me down, I remember how sweet heaven will be.
And the older I get, the sweeter it gets!
Vonda, I know my Grandmother can’t wait for the day she’s there. She never expected to be looking at her 88th birthday in a few months. When I was in my abusive relationship, I yearned for it all the time. Thankfully we know that things here are only temporary.
Heaven gets sweeter by the day, especially the older I get!
Amen! I couldn’t have said it any better!
Diana,
I long to be with God’s forever family where there will be no more separation from loved ones. Thanks for reminding us about the joys awaiting us.
You’re welcome. Isn’t it wonderful to know that one day we’ll never be separated again?
