Hope in the Bible: Mary Magdalene
Mary Magdalene had been possessed by seven demons. She must have felt helpless and uncertain about her life, as total possession took over her. Then she met Jesus who healed her and provided her with hope. Scripture does not tell use the account of her healing, only she was healed. {Luke 8:2}
Jesus not only healed her but gave her hope and a new lease on life. She wholeheartedly followed him and dedicated her life to him and his message.
After he healed her, Mary of Magda followed Jesus and ministered to him and his disciples. {Luke 8:1-3}
When Jesus was crucified, Mary Magdalene was one of the women at the foot of the cross. {Matthew 27:56} She watched his body taken down and him placed in the tomb. {Mark 15:40-47}
The next morning, she and some of the other women to the cross to anoint his body. He appeared first to Mary Magdalene, who then ran to tell the disciples and share the message that he was not dead. But alive. {Mark 16: Luke 25:10} The hope she’d lost with his death had been restored. She didn’t stop telling others that she’d seen the risen Lord.
The Bible doesn’t tell us what happened to Mary Magdalene after this, but we can be sure she continued to share the gospel message. She had witnessed her own healing and Jesus death and resurrection. She knew where her hope laid. In Jesus Christ.
