Wellness Tuesday: Honoring God’s Body
The Bible tells us that our body is a temple to the Lord.
We are to treat our body the way we would treat God’s temple. This is one of the first lessons we learn in First Place 4 Health.
1 Corinthians 3:16-17 says,
[box] “Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you? If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy him. For God’s temple is holy, and you are that temple.”[/box]
I have to be honest there are times I don’t treat my body as God’s temple.
There are times I abuse my body in ways I would never purposely abuse God’s temple.
This can be anything from:
- Unhealthy food choices
- Abusing our body
- Negative self-talk
- Not exercising
I began to think how this must grieve God.
I also realized that He loves me more than I love myself. After all, He laid down His life for me so that I can have eternal life. {John 3:16}
Yet, time after time I continue to abuse my body and not treat it the way I should.
We are reminded in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20,
[box]“Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.”[/box]
My body is God’s temple and I need to honor and care for it the way God honors and cares for me.
How do you care for the temple God gave you?
