Behind the Doxology: Gloria Patri
The Gloria Patri is another doxology sung by many denominations from the Catholics to the Orthodox to the Presbyterians and Lutherans to the Methodists and Baptists.
This is often referred to as the Lesser Doxology {in contract to Gloria in Excelsis Deo, the Great Doxology}.
The English version is translated from the Latin text, “Gloria Patri, et Filio, et Spiritui Sancto. Sicut erat in principio, et nunc, et semper, et in sæcula sæculorum. Amen.”
The lyrics have also been translated and used in Greek, Syriac {Assyrian Church} and Arabic.
This doxology pays tribute to the Father, Son and Holy Spirit known as the trinity. The Gloria Patri is a trinitarian doxology.

Some anglicans also say the Gloria Patri after the Psalms are read.
