The Soundtrack of Our Lives
We all have songs that take us back to memories of yesteryear or provide a wave of emotion through us. These songs are the songs that make up the soundtrack of our lives.
We all remember what was playing the first time we were kissed, said I love you, held a newborn baby in your arms, and throughout a number of other important stepping stones
in our lives.
Understanding the soundtrack of our lives can be very beneficial in helping us recall memories and sharing our history with others.
Music plays an important part in all of our lives. There are songs we love and songs we detest.
Think about it…what songs make you laugh…or cry…or your heart swell with love…or cause you to look up to God with reverence?
Yet, so many parts of our lives are touched by music. From what we listen to on the radio, to concerts we attend, to songs on our favorite TV Show or movie. But, we are only scratching the surface because there is music on commercials and in the stores where we
shop, songs we sing in church, songs we sing when we are being silly with our friends and the lullaby’s we hum when rocking our children.
The soundtrack may not be only the song sung, but a favorite performer.
Do you remember the first time you saw Doris Day sing “Que Sera, Sera”, heard Frank Sinatra sing “My Way” or stopped when Bing Crosby first introduced “White Christmas”?
However, the soundtrack of our lives can also be very useful in diseases such as Alzheimer’s. By recognizing the songs that stir memories of the past, musicians or music therapist can help unlock the memories that are locked away in this terrible disease.
