Stop being a worrying Nellie

Recently I was worried about a situation and running through a hundred different scenarios.

Mama looked at me and said, “stop being a worrying Nellie.”  She reminded me that I was stressing myself out by worrying about things that may never even happen.

I find it so easy to take on so many issues and problems and worrying about them when instead I need to pray about them.  It’s only after I’ve worried about everything that I began to pray.

However, I should pray about the situation before I ever begin to worry.

Jesus said, ““Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?”  {Matthew 6:25}

Often we worry about things that will never happen.  But, when we do have troubles, the Lord wants us to turn to Him in prayer and pour out our feelings and worries to Him.  When we stop worrying and turn it over to God in prayer, we are a faithful believer.

Paul wrote in Philippians 4:6-7, “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.  Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.”

Are you a worrying Nellie or a faithful believer?
