We Often Hurt Ourselves When We Hurt

When we hurt, we take it out on those that we love {and sometimes hate} the most.

There are times when we hurt that we often take it out on ourselves.

When I was in an abusive relationship, I dealt with the pain by taking it out on myself.

While I never tried drugs, I would bite myself, over dosed on pills, tried cutting one time

Overeating and little exercise led to bad health

and hid my pain through food.

I felt lost and as if I had no control over my life. The only control I had was over how I could hurt myself.

If others thought so little of me, then why shouldn’t I?

The devil really got a hold of me for a while and I began to believe that death was better than life. However, every time I made a plan to end things, the Lord watched over me and protected me.

Even as the abuse escalated, I began to see hope within myself. Hope that only the Lord could provide.

As I began to grow stronger, my abusers continued to turn up the heat. They could not stand that they were losing their control over me. My determination was becoming stronger and my faith was growing exponentially.

Psalm 10:17 says, “LORD, you know the hopes of the helpless. Surely you will hear their cries and comfort them.”

We may be hurting and feel helpless, but there is hope. Sometimes, we are so broken and so lost that we have no where to turn other than to cast our cries and anxieties on the Lord Jesus Christ.

The answer may not come immediately but if we continue to cry out and seek the Lord’s help, he will hear us and deliver us.

Do you call out to the Lord in your pain and hurt?
