Dorothy A. Thrupp wrote many hymns, often under a pseudonym. One of her best known hymns is “Savior, like a Shepherd Lead Us.”
She was born in London on June 20, 1779. Little is known about her life other than she wrote many hymns. Often in hymnals she’s listed as “D.A.T.” or under a pseudonym. It is said that she preferred to let her lyrics speak for herself.
“Savior, like a Shepherd Lead Us” was written in 1836 and speaks about the comfort from the “tender care” of Jesus.
Dorothy died on December 15, 1847 in London, England.
The melody was provided by Henry Francis Lyte.
