Caroline Marie Noel was born in 1817 England to an Anglican clergyman and hymn writer. As a teenager, Caroline Noel began to write hymns. By the time she reached adulthood health issues prevailed and she stopped writing. Yet, she continued to read scripture and seek the Lord. Later she returned to writing hymns and poetry to encourage herself and others. She later wrote that “At the Name of Jesus” was inspired by Paul’s letter to the Philippians. She hoped many would profess and make Jesus their Lord. Caroline died in 1877.
