Power of Forgiveness: Keep Forgiving and in time it will get easier
Forgiving is not easy and does not happen overnight.
I have had experiences where I was able to forgive immediately and other experiences that took me years to forgive.
Working through an experience of betrayal, hurt or deception takes time and rarely happens overnight and immediately. Even when I forgave in the midst of betrayal, I still had to work through the pain and emotions of being betrayed.
But, there are a few things we can do to keep working towards forgiving:
- Journal
- Express feelings—whether through song, dance, art or nature find a way to express those feelings
- Exercise
- Seek God’s Assistance
Martin Luther King, Jr. said, “Forgiveness is not an occasional act, it is a constant attitude.”
Whether we are forgiving ourselves, another person or God, it is a constant attitude we need to work towards and strive for.
Ephesians 4:31-32 says, “Get rid of all bitterness, rage, and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”
