Dealing with Depression in the Family
Depression runs in my family. We all have that strongly dominate melancholy gene.
I loved Daddy greatly, but his mood swings growing up often took a toll on the family. One moment he could be in a good mood, but when he awoke from a nap he was in a bad mood.
Now, my struggle with depression was on display for everyone to see.
I felt like an embarrassment to my family. After all, we don’t discuss how we feel.
Having to admit that I’d been hospitalized was very embarrassing for both myself and other family members.
These feelings continued in eroding more of my self-confidence.
