He Calls the Broken Hearted

Growing up in a Christian home, I knew about the love of God. I knew that he died for my sins and loved me.

I had accepted Jesus into my heart when I was only five years old, but that’s not to say I always lived in a pleasing manner to my Lord, especially as an older teenager and young adult.

I ignored the Lord’s warnings when he told me not to become involved with the man in my life. I decided that I knew best and could not live without this man.

For three and a half years, I lived a life of pure hell and abuse.

I suffered abuse on every level, including spiritual abuse.

At first, this man preyed on my faith and “pretended” to be a Christian. However, even then there were red flags I chose to ignore.

Slowly, our church going died away and I was blamed for “embarrassing” him, so that we could not attend church any longer.

I took to reading online devotionals, because this was the only way I could access the word of God.

We have to stand firm in the word of God as believers

One day, I had just finished my online devotional and closed out the page when he walked in and demanded to know what I was doing.

I admitted, “an online Bible study”.

His response surprised me and served as a real eye opener. “Why would you do such a thing? Only when you are better and healed does He want you.”

“Better and healed from what?” I asked.

“You know what” and he turned and left the room.

I was left standing there is disbelief. For the first time, the truth began to shine through in my heart, soul and mind and the bind this man had on my heart and life began to loosen.

You see, I knew that was not true. The Lord doesn’t want us to wait until we are whole and well.

How has God healed you?

He calls for the broken hearted to come to him. Psalm 147:3 says, “he heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.”

Jesus said in John 14:27 “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.”

So, when the devil tries to whisper to you that Jesus doesn’t love you or you are not whole enough for him, remember that Jesus calls the broken hearted to him. No matter how broken you are, the Lord loves you and is waiting for you to call on him. He will bind up your wounds and hurts and bring about healing only He can provide, if you will allow him.

Who do you call on when you are broken hearted?
