A Song For All Ages
One of the first songs we learn to sing as children is “Jesus Loves Me.”
When I go into the nursing homes and daycares to perform, for music therapy or a music session I always end with Jesus Loves Me.
I’ve discovered several things:
1. Everyone knows this song
2. The song seems to resonate and touch a chord with each person
3. Even the youngest of children know this song or quickly learn to sing it
4. I’m engraining an important truth with children that will be with them the rest of their lives
5. Unresponsive patients {in the nursing home} often begin to sing this song with me
6. I often take senior adults back to happy memories of childhood through the use of this song
7. I’m reminding these adults that they are not alone, they are loved and there is hope
8. Without fail I see faces light up
9. My best friend reminded me I never know the chord I might be touching with them
10. In some small ways I’m reminding both young and young at heart of this eternal promise
The first verse we learn as children is John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have eternal life.”
We are reminded throughout the Bible of God’s love for us. The New Testament is a continuous reminder of Jesus love for us. Do you think he’d have sacrificed himself on the cross if he didn’t love you? “As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love.If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love.” {John 15:9}
So regardless of your age, or that of the children or senior adults in your life, remember this is one truth that is unfailing. Who are you sharing God’s love with? How are you responding to Jesus sacrifice?
