Uncertain Times: Return of Jesus

When asked about his return, Jesus said “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.”  {Matthew 24:36}

We’re not told when he will return, but we are given signs to look for.  Some of these signs are:

  1. Wars— “And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom”    {Matthew 24:6-7}
  2. Violence and Lawlessness—” “And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold”  {Matthew 24:12}
  3. Droughts and famines–  Jesus predicted“And there will be famines.” {Matthew 24:7}
  4. Earthquakes and other natural disasters– there will be increasing “earthquakes in various places”  {Matthew 24:7; Mark 13:8}
  5. Pandemics—“great pestilences”  {Matthew 24:7}
  6. False prophets—“and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people.”  {Matthew 24:11; Revelation 19:19-21}
  7. Persecution—” “Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me.”  {Matthew 24:9; Revelation 12:17}
  8. Gospel preached to whole world—” And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations”  {Mathew 24:14}
  9. Nations rising against one another—” Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. “   {Matthew 24:7}

We see these signs increasing on a daily basis and there is a lot of uncertainty and strife in our world.  However, Jesus said  “for he who endures to the end shall be saved” (Matthew 24:13)

We have to press on, holding onto our faith and calling out to the Lord.  There is much we may not understand or even like, but the Father designed the ending, even from the beginning.

“Declaring the end from the beginning, And from ancient times things that are not yet done, Saying, My counsel shall stand, And I will do all My pleasure” (Isaiah 46:10).

No matter how uncertain or scary, the Lord is in control and with us.  {Isaiah 41:10} He is working all things out for His good and we can rest in him. {Romans 8:28}

“Even so, come, Lord Jesus” (Revelation 22:20)
