Song Story: His Hand in Mine

Elvis Presley is known for his love of gospel music and to often have hymn sings after his concerts. It is said he used it to “to rehearse and loosen up before concerts and at the beginning of recording sessions”.

After the success of his single Peace in the Valley, Elvis was eager to record a full gospel album.

His Hand in Mine appeared on the first of Elvis’ three gospel music albums. His first gospel music album was titled after the song and released in November 1960. It was certified Gold on April 9, 1969 and Platinum on March 27, 1992 by the Recording Industry Association of America.

The entire album was recorded in a fourteen hour session.

The song His Hand in Mine was written by Mosie Lister. The Statesmen Quartet recorded the song in 1953.

Elvis released His Hand in Mine as an Easter single in 1969.
