Eyewitness to Easter: Pilate, Crucified Jesus

“So Pilate decided that their demand should be granted.”   {Luke 23:4}

Pilate decided to give in to their demand, as a riot was beginning.

“So when Pilate saw that he was gaining nothing, but rather that a riot was beginning, he took water and washed his hands before the crowd, saying, “I am innocent of this man’s blood; see to it yourselves.”  {Matthew 27:24}

Pilate washed his hands of the matter and Jesus innocent blood.

“He released the man who had been thrown into prison for insurrection and murder, for whom they asked, but he delivered Jesus over to their will.”  {Luke 23:25}

He released Barabbas and sent Jesus to be beaten and prepared for crucifixion.

“And all the people answered, “His blood be on us and on our children!”  {Matthew 27:25}

The people cried out that they and their children would be held responsible for Jesus death when Pilate washed his hands of the matter.

“Of course he is not innocent, because he has unjustly agreed to be influential in a judicial matter which should not concern him. The people’s cry is, ‘His blood be upon us and on our children,’ which is later to be fulfilled in two entirely different ways. “  {The Bible Panorama}

“So Pilate, wishing to satisfy the crowd, released for them Barabbas, and having scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified.”  {Mark 15:15}

And so Jesus was sent to be whipped and suffer before crucifixion. And the will of God was carried out.
