In The Right Kind of Fool, it is 1934, thirteen-year-old Loyal Raines slips away to the nearby river and finds a dead body. Having disobeyed his mother, he heads to the mountain cabin of his absent father and struggles to communicate the news. Loyal and his father, Creed, are pulled into a murder investigation and must learn to communicate and find courage.

I loved this book and the journey the characters took throughout the novel. Sarah Loudin Thomas did a great job of describing and incorporating American Sign Language. I look forward to reading more books by Sarah Loudin Thomas.
