Behind the Song: My Savior’s Love

Jesus death on the cross represents the highest form of love, called agape or “unconditional” love. Jesus died for you and for me on the cross, unconditional. He allowed himself to be offered up as a sacrifice for us, but it is up to us if we are willing to accept his gift.
My Savior’s Love was written by Charles Gabriel, a popular and prolific song writer in the early 20th Century.

Charles Gabriel

Charles Gabriel wrote somewhere between seven to eight thousand songs throughout his life. In addition to his own name, he often used the pseudonyms Charlotte G. Home, H. A. Henry, and S. B. Jackson.
He is said to have taught himself to play the organ on the farm he grew up on as a child. By the age of seventeen, he traveled and lead shape note singing schools.
The song is often published under the titles How Marvelous How Wonderful or even more commonly I Stand Amazed in the Presence.
This hymn was first published in a hymnal titled Praises, published in 1905.
The hymn was popular as part of the Billy Sunday/Homer Rodeheaver evangelistic crusades.
Other well known songs by Charles Gabriel include Send the Light, Higher Ground, O That Will Be Glory, He Lifted Me, Will the Circle Be Unbroken, Crown Him with Many Crowns, Since Jesus Came into My Heart, and His Eye is on the Sparrow.
