Worshiping with Art

If you’ve ever visited the Sistine Chapel, you’ve seen the beautiful artwork depicting the life of Christ.

Even more locally, you may have notice the beautiful stained glass windows that bring to life various scenes from Christ life.

All of these are forms of art, in which we can worship the Lord.  Even if we are not professional artist, we can still use artistic forms to worship the Lord.

Examples of art being used in scripture include:

  • Isaiah 64:8– But now, O LORD, thou [art] our father; we [are] the clay, and thou our potter; and we all [are] the work of thy hand.

Exodus 35:35 – Them hath he filled with wisdom of heart, to work all manner of work, of the engraver, and of the cunning workman, and of the embroiderer, in blue, and in purple, in scarlet, and in fine linen, and of the weaver, [even] of them that do any work, and of those that devise cunning work.

  • 2 Timothy 1:6– Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.

There are numerous forms and styles of artwork, which can be used as a means of worship.

  6. Decorating—if you enjoy decorating, use this in a creative way. Pray for the individual you are helping with the decorating or decorate an area of the house to be used as your prayer closet or prayer room
  7. Design—many have the gift of design, which can be used in a variety of fields. Use these gifts and talents to pray for others while you create.  While designing, seek God’s will and direction with the aesthetic and overall idea.
