Why Can’t I Forgive Myself

I’ve discovered that when I look back over my life and the mistakes I’ve made, there are

Forgiving myself is much more difficult than forgiving others

considerable regrets and pains.

I’ve hurt myself with my decisions and allowed myself to be hurt by others.   However, the most difficult person to forgive has been myself.

Even when I forgive myself and move on there are times when the same regrets continue to creep up and remind me of all I’ve done wrong.

Jeremiah 31:34 says, “Know the Lord: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the Lord: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.”

The Lord will forgive our sins if we confess them to Him and seek Him.

The Lord forgives me

If the Lord can forgive, then why can’t I forgive myself?

  • The devil likes to remind us of our faults
  • We have human reactions and feelings
  • We rely on our feelings
  • We are weak, where the Lord is strong
  • We hold onto our memories

But, if the Lord can forgive me then I should forgive myself.  When struggling, we can turn to Him and He will help us.

How do you forgive yourself?
