When We Blame Others

Recently I had a conversation with a loved one.  A former boyfriend had recently died due to a short illness.

It is easy to blame others for our pains and decisions

We began to discuss the decisions this individual made and that she was better off without him.  Even before they broke up, he was making bad choices and doing things that were harmful to both himself and others.  This was the entire reason they broke up.

However, nearly twenty years later, many people still blamed her for the downward spiral his life took.

I told her it wasn’t her fault and it wasn’t.   He was already on the destructive path and continued that downward spiral after they broke up.

I’ve discovered that it is so easy to blame ourselves for our own mistakes.

However, it’s even easier to blame others for the choices they made and how those choices impacted or effected our lives.

However, at some point we must learn to let go and to forgive.

Colossians 3:13 says, “Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.”

At some point, we have to accept our responsibility in our circumstances and the part we played.

We cannot continue to blame others for our mistakes and actions.

When we finally begin to accept responsibility, we can let go of the past and move forward.

Do you still blame someone for how they wronged you?
