What is Your Validation?

Recently, I was listening to a Podcast and the speaker was discussing meeting his goals as a writer, however he did not find peace and joy.  He continued to want more and more and searched for his validation in sales, reviews,  and social media numbers.

What do you listen to for validation?

What do you listen to for validation?

As a writer, we are told that these numbers are important.

Then he said something that made me stop and re-listen to the comment two more times.  “Anything you listen to for validation is a sugar or addiction.”

I thought about some of the addictions I’ve struggled with such as food, blog numbers, shopping, working on Family History and work {or rather overworking}.  It is so easy to pour all we have into anything that is important to us.

Where is your hope found?

Where is your hope found?

I know there are times I become so completely engrossed in my passion that it takes on a life all of it’s own and becomes an addiction.

However, just as the speaker said none of these have provided me with peace and joy in the depths of my soul.

I’ve only found a deep peace and joy through one person and that is Jesus Christ.  Paul wrote in Romans 15:13, “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
