Book Review: The Undoing of Saint Silvanus by Beth Moore

In Beth Moore’s fiction debut, The Undoing of Saint Silvanus, Jillian Slater agrees to return to New Orleans upon news of his father’s death, but even she isn’t sure why.

Beth Moore’s The Undoing of Saint Silvanus is worth reading

With her expenses all paid, Jillian journeys to Saint Silvanus.  She soon discovers that nothing is as she imagine and more is at stake than she ever dreamed.

She arrives to meet an icy grandmother, Olivia, who is emotionally distant and doesn’t know how to deal with the death of her only child, Raphael {Rafe}.  When police discover he was killed, the mystery only begins to build.

A painful history is waiting for her that refuses to be ignored.  Jillian walks into a web of deceit and personal and spiritual danger that is borne out of her family’s long broken history.

However, Adella Atwater, the manager of her grandmother’s apartment house, does all she can to save the soul of this hurting and lost young woman.

Yet, only God can orchestra the events that must occur before healing can begin.  But, these events also place Jillian in grave danger.

While Beth Moore is best known for her exceptional Bible Studies, she is also an exceptional story teller.  In her first fiction endeavor, I did not know what to expect, but I was engrossed in the story from the beginning.

The tension only built throughout the story and there were times I had no idea who, if anyone, Jillian should trust.

Beth Moore is a well known Bible Teacher

The climax left me on the edge of my seat, biting my nails to see how everything would unfold.

Just as Beth Moore tugs at your heart strings with her teaching, her first endeavor into the world of fiction will be a page turner that tugs on your heart strings and ministers to your spirit.  I loved this book and highly recommend it.  The characters are three dimensional individuals, who are extremely complex and well rounded.

Hopefully this will be the first of many stories Moore will share with us in the future.

The Undoing of Saint Silvanus is a read you don’t want to miss and one you will want to keep in your library to read again from time to time.  This was one book that left me sad the story ended.
