Uncertainty in Bible: Daniel Tested in the Lions Den

Daniel lived through times not unlike our own, living in a sinful land. {Ezekiel 14:14}

Under a new king, the other officials want to get rid of Daniel due to his faith and he is tested. He disobeys the laws about worship and insisting on praying three times a day as tradition states. {Daniel 6}

Because of his disobedience he is thrown into a lions den, which is then sealed with a stone.

This had to be a very uncertain and scary time for Daniel. We don’t know what Daniel did that night, but we can assume he continued to pray and praise the Lord.

Scripture tells us the king could not sleep and rushed at first light to the lions den. {Daniel 6:18-20}

Daniel is lifted from the den, the other officials thrown in and a decree issued “every part of my kingdom people must fear and reverence the God of Daniel.”  {Daniel 6:26}

We are told Daniel “prospered during the reign of Darius and the reign of Cyrus the Persian.”  {Daniel 6:28}

  • You know, sometimes it feels like certain forces of evil would throw Christians into dens of lions today, if there were not laws in place to protect them. It is very comforting to me to know and be reminded of how faithful God was to Daniel when he stood firm in his faith. Thank you for this timely reminder. I love the pictures, too. They remind me of when I was little and our Sunday School teacher used flannelgraphs. Do you remember those?
