Uncertain Times in the Bible: Lot flees Sodom and Gomorrah

Lot and Noah have a lot in common, in the fact they lived among evil people.

When the Lord told Abraham he was going to destroy the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah, Abraham begged him to spare the city if even ten righteous men could be found. {Genesis 18:16-33}

Lot went out to meet the angels and even then the men swarmed his house begging him to send the men out for carnal delights.  The men were not happy even with Lot’s daughters.  {Genesis 19:1-11}

Lot protected the men of God

When Lot attempted to inform his sons-in-law to “Get out of this place” it was about to be destroyed, they thought he was joking. {Genesis 19:14}

The men told Lot to flee to a mountain, but he became afraid and bargained saying “This disaster will overtake me and I’ll die.” {Genesis 19:18-21}

The Lord waited until Lot and his family safely reached Zoar, to send down burning sulfur on Sodom and Gomorrah. {Genesis 19:23-25}

But Lot’s wife looked back and turned into a pillar of salt.  {Genesis 19:25}

This was a very uncertain and scary time for Lot and his daughters. “ Lot and his two daughters left Zoar and settled in the mountains, for he was afraid to stay in Zoar. He and his two daughters lived in a cave.”  {Genesis 19:26}

When Lot’s wife turned around she was turned to stone

They ended up in the very place the angels commanded him to go and he refused at first.

His daughters were also unsure of themselves and each slept with their father. Their descendants became the Ammonites and Moabites. {Genesis 19:30-38}

Instead of seeking the Lord, Lot and his daughters reacted to the uncertainty taking matters into their own hands. Their descendants would become enemies to the Israelite’s {God’s chosen people}.
