Wellness Tuesday: To Have or Have Not A Trainer

trainer            Last week, I shared the benefits of exercise.   Today, I want to share my experience with a trainer.

About two years ago, a local gym offered an amazing deal to work with a trainer.  I quickly signed up and worked with a trainer for the next years.  After the year was up, I decided to not renew the contract.  The reasons for this were numerous but mainly because my work hours had been cut and I did not feel that my trainer listened to what I was saying.

My trainer was a very nice person and pushed me, but I felt that this individual did not listen to my needs and concerns and interest.

Through this experience, I discovered there are several things I will look for in finding a trainer in the future.

There are pros and cons to working with a personal trainer

There are pros and cons to working with a personal trainer

  1. A trainer that will listen to my needs and interest
  2. A trainer that will push me beyond my limits, but not past what I’m physically able to do
  3. A trainer that will help me to break through the mental and emotional barriers I have constructed  {think of watching Jillian Michaels, Bob Harper or Dolvett Quince have a heart to heart and ask why they got to this point on The Biggest Loser or Chris Powell on Extreme Weight Loss}.
  4. A trainer that makes me feel important as a person and not another paycheck
  5. A trainer that is willing to change things up and allow me to try different exercise techniques and disciplines.  I bore easily and want to change things up.  Also, by doing this I may find something I love but never thought of trying.

What do you look for in choosing a trainer?
