The Importance of a Mentor

I grew tired of spinning my wheels.  It seemed for years as if every step forward resulted in three steps back.  Looking at my to-do list, items were still on there from years ago.  I wasn’t getting anywhere.

                Lord, is this really what you want for me?  Is this your plan for my life?  Maybe I was wrong.  Maybe I’d misunderstood the Lord when he placed the desire in my heart to serve Him.

                I grew even more frustrated as friends who began with me were now lightening steps ahead of me and I was still at the beginning.  I reminded myself I’d spent these last years rebuilding my life from multiple traumatic experiences, but it did not bring me comfort.  My frustration only increased.

                Then the Lord provided an opportunity I could not pass up and with it came what I needed most.  A mentor.

                Were all my questions answered at once?  No.

                In fact, there are many questions I’m still waiting to be answered.  However, I have the steps to move forward and someone experienced with whom I can turn to and seek advice, help and reassurance.

                There are times when we cannot do things on our own, but need someone wiser to lead, guide and direct us.

                “Remember those who led you, who spoke the word of God to you; and considering the result of their conduct, imitate their faith.”  {Hebrews 13:7}

                We all need mentors in various aspects of our life journey.  However, we also need to be a mentor to others.

                “The things you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.”   {Philippians 4:9}

            What areas of life do you need a mentor?  How do you mentor others?
