Put Your Hand in the Hand is a catchy, upbeat tune that was written by Gene MacLellan.

Anne Murray first recorded the song for her 1970 album Honey, Wheat and Laughter with Capitol Records.

I’ve not been able to find the details which prompted MacLellan to write the song.

Gene MacLellan was born on February 2, 1938 in Quebec, Canada. He grew up in Toronto, before eventually settling on Prince Edward Island.

He tragically died by his own hand on January 19, 1995. Later that year he was posthumously inducted into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame.

Many performers have covered the song including Bing Crosby, Ray Dylan, Johnny Cash, Frankie Laine,Donny Hathaway and Elvis Presley. The song also appeared on the TV Shows Hee Haw and Family Matters.
