Pulling Back the Layers

I was hurting and in pain and wanted to disappear into the depth of depression and darkness that encompassed my heart.

Yet, I had to move forward.  I could not stay in this holding spot forever.

I began to pull back the layers but it wasn't easy and it took time and hard work

But how did I begin to heal?

I wasn’t able to do it on my own.  I also knew that I did not want to bury my hurt and pain the way I had years earlier.  I needed to deal with this pain.

I had to accept that at least some of my depression was suppressed anger.

So, I sought out counseling.  I participated in individual and group counseling sessions that were vital to my healing.

Our local church also offered Divorce Care and Celebrate Recovery.  I participated in both.

By working the programs and doing the work that was required, I began to slowly pull back the layers.

However, healing did not happen overnight.
