Names of God: Alpha and Omega

The Alpha and Omega means the first and the last

Alpha and omega are the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet.

Alpha means beginning, creation and origination

Omega means the extreme; final part; the end; the last of a series

“Among the Jewish rabbis, it was common to use the first and the last letters of the Hebrew alphabet to denote the whole of anything, from beginning to end.”

A second meaning of Jesus as the “Alpha and Omega” is that the phrase identifies Him as the God of the Old Testament.”

I am the Alpha and Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.”    Revelation 1:8

“And he said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give from the spring of the water of life without payment.”  Revelation 21:6

“I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.” Revelation 22:13
