Abusive relationships usually escalate from single incidents to multiple incidents more often.  Often a woman will think she is safe, but when she stands up for herself or tries to leave, she may discover exactly how dangerous the abuser can become.

In my situation, I saw the relationship slowly dissolving.  The last month we were together we could not even speak to one another in a civil manner.  I was working on finding a way out when the situation came to a dangerous head.  Looking back I wonder if I would have survived another month.

Once I did leave, I was several states away.  I refused to tell my husband where I was and took every protective measure possible.

What are some life threatening signs in an abusive relationship?:

  • Obsession with the victim
  • Use of weapons to threaten or intimidate
  • Threats of suicide
  • Phyiscal attacks
  • Verbal threats
  • Kidnapping
  • Stalking
  • Take hostage
  • Sexual assault or rape
  • Substance abuse
  • Prior history of abuse and violence with previous partners or children
  • Previous history of incidents that resulted in serious injury
