Names of God: King of Kings

The Lord God refers to himself as the King of Kings, meaning he is the king and highest entity over all other Kings.  Often we hear the term King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

We are told everyone must bow to the Lord God and there is no authority over him.  “Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established.”  {Romans 13:1}

“… God, the blessed and only Ruler, the King of kings and Lord of lords…” (1 Timothy 6:15)

Jesus is referred to as the King of Kings in the book of Revelation.

They will make war on the Lamb, and the Lamb will conquer them, for he is Lord of lords and King of kings, and those with him are called and chosen and faithful.”  {Revelation 17:14}

On his robe and on his thigh he has a name written, King of kings and Lord of lords.  {Revelation 19:16}

In the end, when Jesus returns, Jesus alone will reign supreme as the King and Lord over all the earth.

Jesus humbled himself to serve others when he came to earth the first time, dying for the sins of mankind. When he returns, he will return as the King of Kings and Lord of Lords ruling over all.  There will be no higher authority over him.
