Jesus, the Son of God

As we wrap up the sons in the Bible series, it is fitting to end with the ultimate son, who is also the sun.

The shepherds found Mary, Joseph and the baby in the manger

Jesus Christ is the son of God.  On earth, he was the son of Mary and Joseph.

His birth was foretold and he was born of a virgin.  The Lord announced his arrival to the shepherds and not the kings.  He learned Joseph’s carpentry trade as he grew.

“You know that He appeared in order to take away sins; and in Him there is no sin.”  {1 John 3:5}

Jesus grew up and began his earthly ministry in his thirtieth year.  He chose twelve men to follow him as his disciples, but had many other followers.

He also had many enemies as he confronted those who were doing wrong and were pious.

Jesus performed miracles

Jesus performed miracles, told parables and spoke about his father, God and his kingdom to come.

Sadly, many of his followers did not understand the meaning about what was to come.

Jesus was arrested, tried and condemned to death.  There he hung on a cross and died for the sins of the world.  He was placed in the tomb of Joseph of Arimathea.  However, he did not stay dead.  Three days later, he rose from the dead.

For forty days, Jesus appeared to the disciples and revealed more about his kingdom.  Then he ascended to the heavens in front of his disciples.

Jesus often spoke of his father:

At that time Jesus answered and said, “I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent and have revealed them to babes.   {Matthew 11:25}

All things have been delivered to Me by My Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father. Nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and the one to whom the Son wills to reveal Him.  {Matthew 11:27}

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.  {John 1:1-3}

No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him. {John 1:18}

In his presence there is joy beyond measure

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. “If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; and from now on you know Him and have seen Him.” Philip said to Him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is sufficient for us.”  {John 14:6-7}

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.  {John 1:14}

And the Father Himself, who sent Me, has testified of Me. You have neither heard His voice at any time, nor seen His form.  {John 5:37}

Then Jesus said to them, “When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He, and thatI do nothing of Myself; but as My Father taught Me, I speak these things. And He who sent Me is with Me. The Father has not left Me alone, for I always do those things that please Him.”  {John 8:28-29}

I have glorified You on the earth. I have finished the work which You have given Me to do. And now, O Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was. “I have manifested Your name to the men whom You have given Me out of the world. They were Yours, You gave them to Me, and they have kept Your word.  {John 17: 4-6}

I Serve a Risen Savior

“If anyone hears my words but does not keep them, I do not judge that person. For I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world.  There is a judge for the one who rejects me and does not accept my words; the very words I have spoken will condemn them at the last day. For I did not speak on my own, but the Father who sent me commanded me to say all that I have spoken.  I know that his command leads to eternal life. So whatever I say is just what the Father has told me to say.” {John 12:47-50}

Jesus was the perfect son, paying the ultimate sacrifice. However, he didn’t stay in the grave. He rose and appeared to his disciples and followers before ascending to the right hand of his father. We are promised one day he will return.
