Hope in the Bible: Ruth and Naomi Stayed Faithful to One Another

Ruth watched helplessly as her mother-in-law lost her husband and then her two sons. Naomi became bitter and disheartened.  {Ruth 1:13}

However, when Naomi tried to send Ruth away, she refused to go telling her “Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God.  Where you die I will die, and there I will be buried. May the Lord deal with me, be it ever so severely, if even death separates you and me.””  {Ruth 1:16-17}

Ruth was a Moabite and headed towards a distant, unknown land with her mother-in-law, but she trusted in a God she only knew about from Naomi and her husband.

Life wasn’t easy for the women upon their return to Bethlehem. They were destitute without a way to provide for themselves, but thankfully a friend had a field where Ruth could glean the leftover wheat. {Ruth 2}

In seeing that Boaz is a just man, Naomi instructs Ruth in how to approach him.  He then goes to the elders and when the next of kin isn’t willing to marry Ruth, Boaz takes on the right as kinsman redeemer. {Ruth 3}

Ruth and Boaz are married and we are told that Naomi’s family is redeemed.

Hope is renewed in the women with the marriage to Boaz and the birth of the couple’s son, Obed. {Ruth 4}

Ruth and Naomi are examples that the Lord can redeem even the worst of situations, if we trust him and allow him to. No matter how bad our situation we can have the same hope of Ruth and Naomi.
