Getting Rid of Stinking Thinking

As a survivor of domestic violence, there is a lot of stinking thinking I’ve had to work through and to reverse.  I’ll tell you it is not easy to do, but I choose to continue to press forward.

My weight loss journey has often been painfully slow and frustrating at times.

However, a great work is being done within my mind, heart, body and soul from the inside out.  The Lord has had to take all of the lies from both others and myself and strip them away one by one {often on more than one occasion}.

Carole Lewis in her book Give God a Year, discusses how the lies of the enemy  are nothing more than stinking thinking.

Whether, it is from listening to others or being too hard on ourselves, many of us have stinking thinking going on in some part or area of our lives.  Often we hid it with a vice, whether it be food, alcohol, shopping, gambling or a variety of other issues.

The Lord lives and delights himself in truth, while the enemy lives and delights himself in lies in deceit.

Peter wrote “Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind.” {1 Peter 2:1}

This isn’t easy, but slowly the Lord will begin to strip away these lies and stinking thinking and he will replace it with his love, mercy and goodness. {1 John 1:6}

But how do we get rid of our stinking thinking?

  • Study the scriptures
  • Memorize the scriptures and quote them back when the lies pop up
  • Seek the Lord
  • Ask God to help us each step of the way

It may not be easy, but in the long run, we are set free as the lies are stripped away.  Free to walk in truth and not in darkness.

How have you changed your stinking thinking?
