Filling Our Love Tanks

For Chinese New Year last month, we had a party for our residents. Part of the Chinese New Year tradition is for the older adults to give children red envelopes with money.

Instead of giving our residents money, we have them gift certificates related to their interest and personality.

We’d not seen the residents this excited since Christmas, when they received their Christmas presents.

The residents were thankful, welcoming, complimentary and happy.  They thanked us time and time again for days for their gifts and for knowing them so well.

I reminded our staff, we filled their love tanks and demonstrated how much we know each one of them and their interest.

We all need our love tank filled on a regular basis. It’s just noticing what moments and interactions make us feel so loved and content.

“Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.”  {1 John 4:11}
