Does the Past Define You?

Often it is easy to allow our past to define us. Could you easily say, “I was a victim…alcoholic…drug addict…enabler…rebel…”
So, often it is easy to define ourselves by what we used to be.
However, if you have worked hard and turned your life around, to become a strong woman and mature adult, we cannot allow the past to define us.
As a Christian, we cannot allow the past to define us, either.
Jesus loved us enough to die for our sins and to extend his grace and mercy for us when he went to the cross. The blood he shed on the cross, covered those sins. Jesus doesn’t care that you may been a “victim…alcoholic…drug addict…enabler…rebel…”, but he doesn’t want you to stay there either.

How do you define yourself?

Through his grace and mercy, he can transforms our lives. Instead of using these labels, we can use labels such as:
Survivor
Child of God
Forgiven
Healed
Redeemed

Romans 3:23 says, “For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.”
John 3:16-18 says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.”

Just as the Lord does not allow the past to define us, we also should not allow the past to define ourselves. Christ bought us with a price and He can transform our lives if we just ask Him.
Have you asked the Lord to transform your life?
