Names of God: Deliverer

The term deliverer means to take and hand over or leave for another and to set free.

In the Lord’s Prayer, Jesus teaches us to pray saying

“and lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil”  {Matthew 6:13}

Jesus is the ultimate deliverer because he came to die for our sins.

The term deliverer is found thirteen times throughout scripture, including

He said: “The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer;   2 Samuel 22:2

The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.  Psalm 18:2

But as for me, I am poor and needy; may the Lord think of me. You are my help and my deliverer; you are my God, do not delay.   Psalm 40:17

He is my loving God and my fortress, my stronghold and my deliverer, my shield, in whom I take refuge, who subdues peoples under me.   Psalm 144:2

and in this way all Israel will be saved. As it is written: “The deliverer will come from Zion; he will turn godlessness away from Jacob.  Romans 11:26
